Job Summary:
The High Commission of Canada has a requirement for a Trade Commissioner in the Trade and Investment Program based at our office in Accra.
- Under the general direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner/Commercial Counsellor, the employee plays an integral role in the Section's trade and investment program for Ghana and Togo.
- Major responsibilities include: providing high-quality service to Canadian clients; developing and maintaining a network of local contacts; analysing and assessing local market conditions; preparing and disseminating market information to Canadian clients; initiating and managing promotional activities; and, other priority trade development activities
Required Skills or Experience
Education:
- A Master's degree or higher from a government-recognized university in communications, business administration, economics, international development, law or a related field (must provide proof of completion of degree within six months of employment)
- Fluency in English (read, write and speak)
- Competency in French is considered an asset (not mandatory)
- Minimum of three years' recent experience providing client service in an international business setting
- Experience planning and managing promotional activities
- Experience analyzing, assessing and monitoring market opportunities for making overseas investment and business decisions
- Experience in the preparation and development of business plans

These elements will be assessed throughout the selection process by any of the following means - written test, oral communication, role play, interviews and reference checks
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of investment, business environment, regulatory and administrative provisions within the Ghanaian government
- General knowledge of Canadian capabilities in mining, metals, minerals, infrastructure, education and oil and gas;
- Knowledge of organizations, agencies engaged in Ghana's oil and gas sector;
- Knowledge of international financing institutions
- Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills
- Planning and organizational skills
- Ability to co-ordinate conflicting priorities and respect deadlines
- Capacity to work individually and within a team;
- Ability to build and sustain effective working relationships;
- Strong written communication skills including all forms of electronic communications
- High degree of discretion and professional integrity as well as excellent judgment
- Effective performance under pressure
- High degree of initiative

- Dependable and loyal
- Required to work directly with public;
- Must be available to work periodic evenings. weekends during peak project delivery periods
