Job Summary:
The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the day to day accounting function for the ACCION Ghana Hub, ensure proper compliance with local tax and regulations, and provide financial reporting to the Africa Region's management team and Headquarters Finance department. The incumbent will also manage hub facilities and supervise the administrative staff of the Hub.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining the day to day accounting function for the ACCION Ghana Hub, ensure proper compliance with local tax and regulations, and provide financial reporting to the Africa Region's management team and Headquarters Finance department. The incumbent will also manage hub facilities and supervise the administrative staff of the Hub.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintain daily cash activity in an Excel ledger (bank accounts and petty cash)
- Receive vendor invoices, check for accuracy, approvals, match with purchase order, and enter vouchers into Deltek;
- Maintain schedule of prepaid and accrued expenses;
- Reconcile monthly all other balance sheet accounts, revenue and major expense accounts;
- Analyzes monthly Trial Balance, addressing irregularities on Trial Balance and prepares correcting entries;
- Follow diligently month and close calendar, communicate clearly with all parties involved in the closing process; ensure intercompany transactions are properly recorded and reconciled with other companies within the group;
- Work closely with the Payroll manager at Headquarters for payroll, benefits, payments and local tax related questions
- Work closely with the local tax advisors to ensure compliance with all local tax and regulations;
- Play major role in the annual external financial audit;
- Be the liaison between the Headquarters Finance department and the local advisors (auditors and tax advisors)
- Develop and implement accounting procedures and monitoring mechanism to increase overall department efficiency and provide better financial control;
- Manage relationship with landlord and vendors providing services such as gardening, water, electricity, internet, security;
Required Skills or Experience
- Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance or related fields or Chartered Certified Accountant
- Minimum of 6 - 8 years experience in a similar position
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounting processes and procedures
- Demonstrated knowledge in the use of accounting packages and software (Deltek, a plus)
- Excellent computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and meed deadline
- Prior management experience required
- Attention to details and strong organisational skills as well as maintaining confidentiality
- Excellent customer service skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Fluency in English required. Proficiency in French is highly valuable
