Job Description
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the position requires the job holder to assist in the management of the general cleanliness and effective functioning of university facilities including offices, hostels and communal areas.

Duties:

  • Assist the Operations Manager in the day –to– day management of university facilities
  • Monitor the state of the academic buildings, hostels and offices and report on issues of concern to the Operations Manager
  • Develop and implement systems that track the performance of utilities such as water, electricity, generator sets, fire hydrants, etc. and recommend appropriate measures to the Operations Manager
  • Prepare and keep a database of an inventory of all facilities and their state at every point in time
  • Develop, implement and ensure that a proactive preventive maintenance schedule is duly followed for all equipment’s, sanitation facilities, architectural facilities, etc., based on supplier instructions and professional requirements
  • Develop and implement templates for checking and reporting on the state of academic facilities , offices, hostels and open areas
  • Supervise the cleanliness of all areas including offices, hostels and other common areas
  • Monitor the work of janitors and ensure that they are performed according to the approved check list standards
  • Keep a log-book of all maintenance issues and report same to the Operations Manager
  • Develop, coordinate and implement templates for environmental and water analysis reporting
  • Monitor water yield
  • Liaise with approved and accredited laboratories to conduct analysis of water samples to ensure that the university operates within the acceptable international standards
  • Ensure the correct use of cleaning and maintenance tools
  • Supervise landscaping / greenery of the university campus
  • Ensure periodical testing of fire safety equipment and fire drills in consultation with the Operations Manager
  • Prepare and submit weekly tracking reports on facilities and their state to the Operations Manager
  • Generate standard  and ad hoc reports and other information as required
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
Required Skills or Experience
Qualifications & Skills
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the Engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil) or Building Construction
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in management of construction projects, hotel or office complex maintenance
  • Excellent communication skills ( verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated ability in use of Information Technology
  • Proactive attitude with attention to details
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and supervise its execution
  • A strong sense of ethics is vital to succeed in this position
