Job Description
(3 Years Renewal Contract)
Salary: GH¢3,000 - GH¢4,000
Person Specification: Must be eligible to work in Ghana
Location: Country Office, Accra

Key Responsibilities:
Strategy:
  • Develop a national long-term fundraising strategy and approach targeting a range of donors including multi-lateral, bilateral bodies and corporations, foundations, etc, which maps out significant transforming steps to improve year-on-year performance significantly over a five-year time frame and beyond for sustainability
  • Ensure effective operational planning and budget setting and efficient use of the CP funds raised, with close attention to continuously improving return on fundraising investment and minimizing risks
Fundraising:
  • Initiating and coordinating all funding contracts
  • Initiating and managing fundraising campaigns and events in Ghana and maximising the potential of new media opportunities for income generation
  • Assist in building relationships with new donor's in-country for programmatic, policy and funding relationships. Also keep up to date with local and international donor policies
Donor Contract Management:
  • Assist all staff in understanding and conforming to specific donor requirements in all aspects of project implementation, management and monitoring and evaluation
  • Identifying gaps, developing and implementing plans to ensure that the Country Programme and the recipient partners have the requisite capacity to manage the funds to raised
Relationship Building and External Communication:
  • To support the negotiation of donor agreements and their clearance by WaterAid UK, Region and Country Representative, and in timely allocation/transfer of firm pledges or funds
  • Review, monitor and document donor funding, policies and trends in Africa and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with all members of staff, and likewise with contacts outside the CP, region and globally
Capacity Building and Skills Development:
  • Ensure capacity needs of the WaterAid staff and partners are met in order to enable each Sub Programme and partner to effectively manage their fundraising activities/donor reporting requirement activities
  • Assist WAG project Partners (NGOs, CBO, Local Authorities and government agencies) to develop and implement their Fundraising strategy to meet the ongoing needs and strategic focus of WaterAid in Ghana and partners strategic plans
Supervision:
  • Manage the Donor Contracts and Management Officer position holder
  • Provide coaching, training and inspire performance that delivers
other duties as assigned
Required Skills or Experience
Education Essential:
  • Master's Degree in social sciences, international development, Marketing, Economics, Communication, Fundraising or Business Administration. Those with Bachelor's Degree will be considered with over 8 years experience
  • A high level of numeracy
Desirable:
  • Post graduate qualification in a social or marketing, development subject
Essential Experience:
  • A minimum of 7 years proven track record and experience of successful networking, fundraising and managing a range of different contracts (Statutory Funding etc), events, corporate, bilateral, international organizations, donors, etc
  • Experience of developing fundraising strategies at a country/regional level
  • At least 5 years experience on project and programme management in international development
  • Experience in making presentations and negotiation
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Representational skills including experience developing relationships with government and donors agencies at a senior level
  • Experience in training and capacity building in fundraising
  • Sound understanding of some major donor funding structures and processes is essential (eg. DFID, EU, UN, USAID etc)
Desirable:
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of donors contracts and subgrants
  • Experience in managing change
  • Experience of working within a development charity
  • Experience of distance management
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to attract and secure new funds and the skills necessary to build and sustain existing relationships using tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to think clearly and analytically
  • The ability to communicate positively and effectively with the Water Aid community, its staff, key stakeholders and audiences
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Good IT skills to include Excel, Word and use of databases desirable; Ability to use WAG website to generate funds essential
  • Competent in use of log frame desirable or developing projects essential
  • Fluency in English
  • The numerical ability to develop budgets and monitor expenditure
  • Proven success in generating convincing proposals, raising funds and writing reports for: trusts/foundations, individuals, corporations or statutory/multilateral donors
  • Ability to plan own work, setting priorities and completing them under pressure or when faced with competing demands
  • Ability to research and identify new funding via Internet, personal contacts, networking and other sources
Desirable:
  • A good understanding of integrated water, sanitation and hygiene promotion project
  • Ability to develop innovative approaches to development problems
  • Use of cost-benefit analysis to determine the investments (human, financial, etc) needed to reach financial goals by the end of the strategy's term. Fluency in French

  • Ability to travel (at least 60 days per year) and on ad hoc basis as needed

  • Effective time management and ability to prioritise multiple, competing tasks to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual environment and on multi-racial teams
