Company Profile
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is member of the World Bank Group, promotes sustainable private sector investment in developing countries as a way to reduce poverty and improve people's lives. In addition to its investment work, IFC is providing Advisory Services (AS) aimed at specific aspects of private sector development.


The Private Enterprise Partnership for Africa (PEP-Africa) is a multi-donor advisory services facility supporting private sector development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The facility is managed from IFC's  regional hub in Johannesburg, with offices located throughout the region. PEP-Africa is structured along four business lines, namely: Access to Finance, Business Enabling Environment, Sustainable Business Advisory, and infrastructure. Supporting the development of competitive small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Africa is a strategic pillar of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Africa. IFC's SME Advisory activities fall under the umbrella of the Private Enterprise Partnership (PEP) for Africa.

Following on from lessons learned from previous programs, SME Advisory activities including rolling out SME Management Solutions (SMS): Business Edge and SME Toolkit. These Capacity building products respond to needs of SMEs in developing countries by providing them with affordable access to localized and customized business management information, interactive tools and training. It also involves rolling out SMS products to enhance the development impact of complementary programs that provide SME access to finance and/or markets. In partnership with the private sector, the Africa SMS team can better ensure that Business Edge and SME Toolkit enable competitive SMEs to grow their business with improved access to finance and/or markets.
Job Description
Duties and Accountabilities:
SMS program is seeking to a highly motivated Short Term Consultant to design and implement capacity building product offerings, targeting the SME sector in Ghana.

The STC will be responsible for the design and implementation of IFC's current or new SME capacity building products in Ghana. He/she will work in multi-cultural teams across the region, and ensure that the products that they are responsible for adequately support support and enhance the Africa Department's specific country or sector programs in an integrated fashion.

The STC's overall responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following tasks:
  • Identifying and designing appropriate capacity building products for the SME sector;
  • Updating or defining the implementation strategy of these capacity building products, based on demand from IFC's investment or advisory services;
  • Updating and maintaining the marketing strategy, in coordination with SMS regional and global teams
  • Coordinating with other IFC facilities and with IFC Sustainable Business Advisory/SMS global team to ensure that the quality and integrity of the products are preserved;
  • Maintaining the relationship with the various stakeholders in the SME space, drafting funding proposal and meeting both IFC and donor reporting requirements;
  • Implementing, in coordination with individual Program Managers, the various capacity building products, monitoring and evaluation policies, procedures and assessing their impacts.
Some of more specific operational activities will include:
  • Execute the Ghana Country SME strategy's business targets for FY 12;
  • Business Development activities for Business Edge and SME toolkit,
  • Prepare Business proposals such concept notes, ToRs, Budgets and so forth for SMS clients;
  • Control and monitoring the cooperation agreements signed with partners including its renewals and collections of fees;
  • Prepare administrative reports as necessary with the quality and timeliness required;
  • Perform any other task that may be assigned by the Program Manager
  • Maintain accuracy of the program database;
  • Review and approve courses submitted by the trainers;
  • Coordinates assessments of trainers and submit reports;
  • Undertake monthly reviews of each partner performance review and organize periodically steering committees;
  • Update periodically the Ghana link in the related websites;
  • Upload all the necessary information in the collaboration spaces
  • Coordinate the selection of the Ghana news partners and support their activities launch 
Required Skills or Experience
Selection Criteria:
The following criteria will be used for selecting the candidates:
  • Bachelor or a Master Degree in Business Administration, Economics or a related area;
  • 5 years or more of relevant experience in business development services, microfinance, training, and/or related areas;
  • Good knowledge of project cycle management;
  • Independent and autonomous, should be able to operate with minimum support;
  • Excellent writing skills, and experience in managing relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Excellent in working for large institutions is an asset;
  • Previous work experience with SME capacity building products, SMS products and the country of applicant's interest is highly desirable;
  • Fluent oral and written English, knowledge of French desired
